Hello Band Families!
Welcome back to the new Marching Band season. It will be an exciting season with a new final competition of the year at the Bands of America Midwest Super-Regional in St. Louis on October 26. If you would like to donate snacks for students to eat at band camp, please click here. Note from Mr. Lesando: I hope you have all had some time to rest and enjoy summer! Since my return from CU, we have been working hard to make sure the rest of the summer goes well and that we are prepared to make this an incredible year for the band. A BIG THANK YOU to all those who were instrumental in the band's garage sale! We made almost $7,000! We will be doing a couple more fundraisers this season to help defray the costs of the BOA St. Louis trip - more info on that to follow! Please make sure you are using these last couple days to take care of yourself for band camp. It is no secret that it has been a hot summer! Staying hydrated, using sunscreen, spending time outside now, and preparing yourself for the heat will vastly increase your comfort level during band camp. Be responsible about your preparation. Remember that you need the following things at camp: 3-ringed binder with plastic pages for music and drill, a large water jug - full of water(some of you bring little bottles to rehearsal, don't do this), sunscreen, hat or head protection, sunglasses, athletic wear (no jeans or other restrictive clothing including boots, sandals, etc.), pencil, and anything you need to successfully play your instrument while at camp. We do some choreography that requires kneeling, lying on the ground, sitting, etc. so wear appropriate clothing and you may want to think about keeping some knee pads in your band locker. We will have lunch each day at 11:45 to 1:15. Please note that sections will often use this time have activities together, work on some things, etc. Because the school is pretty good distance from healthy lunch options, it would be best to pack a lunch or bring your student lunch during that time each day. Last thing - the Members tab of the website is an extremely useful tool. The password was emailed. If you didn't get the email, contact Mr Lesando. You can download/print pdf's of show music, warm-ups, color guard videos, and an MP3 of the show. Listen to it a couple times and start to think about how your part fits into it - maybe you're at the point where you can sing/buzz/play along with the recording??? Our success this season is reliant on how well you know this show music and how well we can tell our story. Become familiar with it, download it to your phone, put it on a playlist, anything that will get you to listen to it a couple times before camp begins. If you need help with anything, ask.
