9/30 Next Week in Band

Hello Band Families,

BOA is finally here and the band is looking fantastic.  The performance at the District Showcase was so good. When the band began, I heard several people in the stands by me say, “Oh, wow. They’re good!”. It’s so exciting to hear how other non-BVSW parents react when they see our band perform.  I mean, I know they are amazing, but hearing it from other school parents is so validating!!  

Our first local show is on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Blue Springs High School.  Information coming soon. The students need to be in the band room by 8:30. All you need to bring to the competition is possibly bleacher seats and foldable chairs if you want to go hang out in the band crash area with the other parents.  We will feed your student so don't worry about food and drink for them. When I get to the show, I will send a remind to let everyone know the general area people are sitting in. It’s really impactful to have a loud audience cheering the band on so let’s try to sit together if we can.  

REMINDERS

• All student accounts should be settled by now.  Please send in any remaining balance you may have.  
• There is no school on the 4th but there is rehearsal at 8 am
• Next band booster meeting: Oct 8, 7 pm in the Orchestra Room.

FUNDRAISING

• MUMS: I just wanted to add a big thank you to everyone who came out and helped with the Mums fundraiser last Saturday. We distributed 1217 Mums and I did not get any emails back complaining that they did not get theirs. So BIG WIN! I think the sale was a big success and hope you will continue this, as I think the community loves it. It will only get bigger. 
• Jersey Mike’s: Thanks to all who went and ate as well as helped hand out our cards! It PAID OFF!!!! We broke the fundraising record at the BluHawk Jersey Mike’s with $2600+ in donations! Another thank you to Ms. Bock for reaching out to all of our feeder schools to spread the word and share those cards. Also, thank you to students who represented the band each evening during a meet and greet time! Way to help build our rapport with the community!
• UPCOMING: Charlie’s Car Wash (October) and Butter Braid sales (November)
• Letter Writing Campaign: A reminder that families are being asked to gather 10 physical mailing addresses and postage for 10 letters. The fundraising team will be working with students after BOA to get letters signed, addressed and ready to mail. More details will come in an email. All families will receive a copy of the letter before working with students. Questions? Email Kelly Ketner.
• THANKS!!!! A big thank you to all who stepped up to go the extra mile for our fundraising efforts. We cannot do these events without all of our band family! Way to go to  Jenni Daniel and her Mum Delivery team and big cheers for the Jersey Mike’s crew who passed those cards out like hotcakes! 

UNIFORMS- Students have been told to notify their instructors if there are any uniform issues. Because of our fantastic choreography, there have been several pants blowouts (an extra reason to wear BLACK compression shorts). We will repair these, but only if we know about them in a timely manner before a show! If your student has mentioned a wardrobe malfunction, please encourage him/her to let Mr. Lesando or Ms. Bock know.
