Band Families,
This is your first issue of “Next week in band” and once again, it’s full of information. Here you will find all the activities for the upcoming week, a ‘quick look’ calendar with upcoming events, and information to help you and your student successfully navigate all the band activities for the season. Please read through all the information carefully. Most of your questions for the next week will be answered here. TOP BAND CAMP TIPS AND TRICKS #1 HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE This is going to be a hot band camp season with record high temps. Have your student start hydrating two days prior to band camp. There will be plenty of water at camp to refill those containers. #2 Go buy a big water jug A 12 oz. water bottle is not going to cut it. It needs to be a gallon or more. #3 Wear socks and shoes Sandals, cowboy boots, brand new tennis shoes are not appropriate attire. Shoes with no socks will only get your student blisters. Wear comfy tennis shoes that are broken in if possible. #4 Dress appropriately Again...record temps this year. No jeans, sweat pants, or cold weather clothing. #5 Sunscreen Lots of Sunscreen. Your student will be in the sun with very little shade. Send sunscreen. Sun shirts and pants are highly recommended if they will wear them. TIP: School pictures are a week or so after band camp. Make sure they know to put sunscreen on their face too or their sunglass tan lines will forever be immortalized in the yearbook. #6 Arrive early. Camp starts at 7am. Arriving at 7am means your student is late. Plan on arriving 15 min early so they have plenty of time to gather their gear and get in place. Mr. Lesando and Ms. Bock are very good about managing the heat for our kids. If the heat index is dangerous, they will rehearse inside for part of the day. When they are rehearsing outside (which will happen everyday in the morning at least) they will be taking lots of required water breaks. We are still in need of snacks for band camp. SPIRIT WEAR Spirit wear is on sale NOW. Order deadline is Sunday, Aug 4. This is the only chance to order during the school year so don’t miss out! The fundraiser will begin during band camp and the kids can sell until August 30th. The mums will be in 9" pots 12-18" wide and 12-16" tall and cost $10 each. The color choices are Yellow, Purple/Pink, Red, Orange/Bronze, and White. Pickup of the mums will be September 21st from 8 am-12 pm in the school parking lot. FRESHMAN/NEW BAND MEMBERS Attention all parents of freshman and new band members, did you get an email from Melissa Lopez? If not, please email her asap at [email protected] so you can get added to her list. POOL PARTY AND BAND PICNIC JULY 27, 4pm to 7pm NEW THIS YEAR we will be having a pool party and picnic at BVSW! Mr. Lesando and Ms. Bock will be cooking for the students while they swim in the pool or play yard games. BAND CALENDAR ISSUES RESOLVED The Band Calendar has been updated on our website.
